The Future of YouTube is HYPE!

Made on YouTube Brings A LOT of Features Onto the Table
The question is: Will it be helpful to you?
If you have yet to see the numerous amount of features from the Made on YouTube event, here's a quick summary.
Generate videos with Google's DeepMind's Veo on Dream Screen
A revamped Inspiration Tab
Fan-driven Communities
Hype points
Auto dubbing
Comment tab turns into Community
Gifts, powered by Jewels
Expanding YouTube Shopping
Living Room experience
Dream Screen is getting an upgrade with Veo later this year.
If you don't know what Dream Screen is, it is a feature that allows you to create AI-generated video or image backgrounds into your Shorts via prompts. Veo is Google Deepmind's most capable model for generating video. With the combination of Dream Screen and Veo, you'll be able to generate better video backgrounds and can even generate a 6 second standalone clip for your Shorts.
Millions of people have been using Dream Screen, but if you're in a niche where you're not on camera, you can still use this feature as a B-roll because you can create almost anything with it. And best of all, it's FREE.
NOTE: If you use Dream Screen, your video will be watermarked and be labeled AI to inform viewers.
The Inspiration Tab is getting a HUGE upgrade.
YouTube is revamping their Inspiration Tab, which will now turn your suggestions into video ideas, titles, thumbnails, and outlines. You can choose to refine each section and brainstorm for more ideas.
The thumbnail section displays two columns of AI-generated thumbnails that we believe is meant to "inspire" you on how you should create your thumbnail, but there is the option to brainstorm and refine them. So maybe YouTube suggests you should use their examples. This can help those of you who don't have time to create thumbnails or have no idea what to do. We've already seen it on a channel like Lazy Pot Noodle. We're not sure how it will affect your CTR.
The Community tab will soon give way to fan-initiated posts.
YouTube has been wanting to become more like other social media platforms and they're taking another step forward with Communities. This is a makeover of the Community tab where not only will you be able to post, but your subscribers. It will truly be a "community" as your fans can create conversations and connect with other fans.
This brings up a couple issues, the first being the ability for anyone to create a post. YouTube blocks this by allowing only subscribers to post, but what's stopping from subscribing to bypass this? They say that they're evaluating more controls, perhaps only allowing on Members to post.
How will the moderation tool stop people from sending inappropriate pictures, advertisements and scams, or begging for subscribers? YouTube already has a bot problem where it imitates creators. This simply opens up a new pathway for the spammers.
YouTube plans on testing with more creators before rolling it out to more channels early 2025, so hopefully the people in the beta will give great feedback so that YouTube can plug up the holes.
Despite the potential issues, allowing fans to create conversations and engaging with them can be extremely helpful for the next feature.
Fans can now help you get discovered by Hyping your video!
It's in the name, but this feature has been getting a lot of buzz since it's announcement. Here is how Hype works:
When a viewer watches a video that is less than 7 days old, they have the option to hype the video.
Viewers can hype 3 times per week. We assume you'll be able to hype your own videos.
If your video gets enough hype, you'll be placed upon the weekly Top 100 leaderboard for your country.
This is only for channels with less than 500k subscribers.
Smaller channels will get a "small creator bonus" which is a point multiplier to channels with fewer subscribers. This will help them compete with bigger channels.
This picture shows the applied small creator bonus for a channel with almost 200k subscribers.
The idea sounds solid and it makes it feel like engagement (in terms of likes and comments) is important again. But there's a reason why YouTube toned down the like button...
Back when clicking the like button had more power, creators would tell their viewers if they could get the video to 10,000+ likes and if they do, they'll get a reward—for example, another video being released immediately. This would boost their videos almost artificially. YouTube didn't like that and likes have never been the same ever since.
So when you think about it, the Hype feature can bring back the problem YouTube stowed away a long time ago.
Then there's the fact that YouTube has plans of allowing people to purchase more hypes with a portion of the revenue going to the creator. This sounds like pay-to-win, but only for the week. It might not be all that bad if it's weekly since it won't stay for long like Trending. Though it does sound like a waste of money and hype if the leaderboard resets every Monday or Sunday and you decide to hype a video on Saturday.
Overall, the Hype feature can be useful in boosting small channels, but how long will it last?
Automatic dubbing coming soon with more expansion of languages!
80% of the world doesn't speak English, and it can take you a very long time to learn every single language just to extend your reach. You might not even have the money to invest in another speaker to dub your videos. With YouTube's Auto Dubbing, you'll be able to make your content accessible to more people around the globe for free.
The automatic dub will mimic your tone and inflection, making the dubbed audio sound more natural. It currently can dub in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, and more to be added. We believe YouTube is using Aloud, an AI dubbing feature made by Google.
It doesn't seem like it'll be taking samples of your voice and instead will use AI voices. Hopefully there will be enough variety in voices so that dubbed videos won't all sound the same.
When you get the feature, you can find it under the Video Details tab.
YouTube's gifting and Jewels is another form of Super Chat, similar to Twitch's Bits.
Viewers can gift you Jewels or digital items to make it easier for viewers to express their reaction during the livestream. We presume these digital items are stickers that bounces around the screen. This feels similar to what Twitch has for their plugins and their Bits system. However, this will only be available on vertical livestreams. There's a chance YouTube may bring this onto horizontal streams later.
It's weird that YouTube decided that vertical livestream is the way forward with this feature, especially when streamers have been begging YouTube to bring more features to livestreaming. Currently, Twitch continues to outdo YouTube when it comes to the live chat community and the vast amount of features they have.
Another thought that comes to mind is that YouTube is replicating certain Asian streaming platforms, like from China where vertical livestreaming is popular.
YouTube TV is getting better with the new living room experience.
YouTube has been working on making their platform extremely assessable on TV and within the living room. And their hard work has paid off since YouTube has dominated the TV streaming space. According to YouTube, "the number of creators making a majority of their YouTube revenue on TV screens is up more than 30% year over year."
In order to help you shine on TV, YouTube will be rolling out the ability to organize your content into seasons and episodes. From what you'll see in the screenshot, a YouTube playlist will look like a Netflix or Amazon series page.
This is great if you have a series on YouTube that you want to push it onto TV.
“
TV is on the rise, and is a great new frontier. It's a bit ironic that the new frontier the living room, is where we use to watch Cable TV. Overall it shows there is still value in TV viewing, and something you should consider as well when you are making your videos, how your video fills the whole screen.

The leftovers we haven't mentioned yet.
We haven't talked about the YouTube Shopping update since it won't apply to the majority of creators. The update is the expansion of the YouTube Shopping affiliate program to Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Currently, it's only available in the US and South Korea.
However, the affiliate program is only for channels with over 10k subscribers, which a majority of creators aren't at. Subscriber counts don't matter, YouTube says, until it matters.
The other update is the transformation of the Comment section on the YT Studio app. It will be called Community. In this new tab, you'll have AI-enhanced reply suggestions that'll give you a starting point. There will also be a community spotlight and audience metrics that has yet to be shown.
