Is YouTube quietly boosting small channels?

YouTube Has a Stat Called "Creators Making It"

Here's something you probably didn't know YouTube tracks: which new creators are actually breaking through.

It started with a Threads post from newmoturbo, they complained that YouTube isn't growing audience anymore because there aren't any competitions. So instead, they prioritize the bigger channels who already have an audience instead of on the smaller channels.

Rene Ritchie, YouTube's Creator Liaison, chimed in to say that YouTube keeps track of creators who make it. That the YouTube Discovery Team has been prioritizing a slot or two at the top of home page recommendations so that new channels' videos can try to find an audience faster.

๐Ÿ‘€ Have You Noticed This Too?

We know We've seen videos with under 1,000 views pop up in the home page.

But here's the thing: getting the slot isn't the same as getting the click. YouTube can hand you the placement. Whether someone actually watches your video is still on you.

Two New YouTube Policy Updates Just Dropped

First is an update to YouTube's creator responsibility policy, regarding the Violent Content guidelines. They've clarified the monetization status of depictions of death within educational, documentary, and news reporting content.

Although YouTube wrote it as "Violent Content" guidelines, it is under the "Shocking Content" policy. You can check out updated policy below.

Second is changes to AI content labels in Promote. In case you're not sure what Promote is, it's the only way for you to pay to promote your content on YouTube. You can do this within YouTube Studio.

On August 2nd, 2026, Promote users running campaigns with AI content can use self-disclosure tools to label their content. Whether they'll actually use it or not, we'll have to see.

YouTube says that the use of AI label setting in Google's advertising products does not guarantee compliance with specific regulations and Promote users should take measures as needed to ensure compliance.
